About A Drug Called Alcohol (KLA01)

Video Only At This Time

'Unlucky Phil' may seem fairly normal, but as we soon learn, you don't have to be a “down & outer” to be an alcoholic.  Alcohol addiction affects many people, who are living seemingly normal lives.  Not all are falling down drunks, but they are abusing their bodies with devastating effects, in both the short and long term. Phil is one of these people.  He has developed a high tolerance to alcohol and needs plenty to achieve the feelings to which he has become addicted.

He far exceeds the recommended daily intake of alcohol, which has become for him a way of life. Its diuretic and anaesthetic effects are immediate short-term problems, but not so apparent to him are the long-term effects of possible liver, stomach and brain damage.  Add to these, reduced sexual performance and the financial commitment to supporting his habit and Phil does have major problems.  Women in similar circumstances, we learn, are even more vulnerable, and pregnant women risk Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which can cause permanent damage to a fetus.

For any professional involved in Alcohol Education programs, this video provides an ideal resource as a starter to discussion.
